Virtualization lets you run an operating system "inside" another. Or better yet, make it into ubuntu itself so I don't have to read yet another forum. Ubuntu won't print!Īnyone that actually can do a short step by step guide without 300 comments and without confusing the situation would be appreciated, and then perhaps get it put somewhere useful instead of page 53. So 45 minutes wasted, one cup of tea drunk (can't stand coffee), and I am back at square one. I don't have time to sit for three hours today just reading 52 pages of a forum on the OFF CHANCE people have corrected something to make it work.Īnd between the complete lack of Java support and now this printer it is a wonder ANYONE who dabbles in computers can be bothered with this linux lark. Things like this that make me want to just go back to windows and all the problems it had, at least it would just print. The commands requiring RPM come back as an error and I can't get beyond that as there is little point. The bit that says binary literally does binary, the computers starts screeching from it's buzzer and the screen is filled with junk for a minute.

While trying to use alien (had to install it) nothing happened,

I have that printer, and this HOWTO is appallingly useless, Via System->Administration->Printing and everything looks OK, it even says that the printer is online/connected. When I check System->Administration->Printing it shows a printer (with a green V or with a red hearth) but when I try to print it says that the printer is offline. I worked with CUP via GUI at I can add/manage printers and assign drivers. I'm at this point that I'm able to create a new printer and select the pps driver(s).

I followed the startpost procedure and some procedures from other posts. I have a Dell 924 printer which might work with Lexmark drivers. Install method from an older forum topic specifically for Z65 which didn't work which wasted a few hours beforehand. Unfortunately I didn't find this HOWTO first and was trying an The key for my system (KUbuntu 8.10) was the /etc/fstab file update,

I did this with a Z65 driver file: Īnd finally got a successful test page. The file name references to your driver filenames. To have the Z35 driver file: ĭownload this file and follow the instructions on this forum changing I'd suggest using google to search for the driver file from an archive site.

It seems Lexmark don't want to support Linux drivers anymore :-( I only started using Ubuntu this year, and am only having problems installing the driver for my Lexmark Z35 Colour Jet Printer. Is there anything else that I can do please? I went to the Lexmark website to download the Z35 driver for Ubuntu (Linux), selected the Linux/Unix tab, and no OS comes up!
